About Eton Dorney
Dorney Lake is a 2,200m, eight lane course with a separate return lane recently constructed to international
standards by Eton College.
The project was a great success and, in 2006, the Dorney Lake hosted the Rowing World Championships, with high praise from both competitors and spectators.
Dorney Lake is set in a 400 acre park with a Nature Conservation area. During the bid to host the 2012
Games, funding was provided to build a new finishing tower at the course.
Getting ready
The existing Eton College Rowing Centre at Dorney Lake will be enhanced to provide improved facilities for athlete warm up and Flatwater Canoe/Kayak competition. A planning application for the improvements is due to be submitted in Summer 2008.
Design and construction will take place in 2009-10, ready for a test event prior to the 2012 Games.
During the Games

Up to 30,000 spectators will be able to enjoy the Rowing, Flatwater Canoe/Kayak and Paralympic Rowing events at Eton Dorney.
Transport plans are being developed to confirm proposals for spectator access at Games-time.
Athletes will be housed in the residential buildings at the Royal Holloway College, which is 16km from the competition venue. Athletes will also be provided with a bed at the main Olympic Village in Stratford.
After the Games
Eton Dorney will continue to provide a world-class training and competition facility after the Games.
